Getting Started: Instant Messaging in There

So, you've recently met a lot of new friends in There.com. How do you keep in contact with them?  First and foremost, add them to your buddies list!  Hover your mouse over their nametag and select Add to Buddies.  They will have the option to Accept or Decline your request and may even add you to their list as well!

To add them anytime they are online, simply click People > Buddies > Add a Buddy > Type-In and key in their avatar name. To check your buddies online status open up your list by clicking People > Communicator.  From here you will be able to see the avatars who are nearest you by selecting "Nearby".  If you click "My Buddies - Online" you will see a list of your friends who are currently online.

Hover your mouse over their name to see a list of things you can do. Click IM to send them an instant message!  It's that easy! If you want to send a message to someone who isn't on your buddy list, simply click People > IM > Type-In. However, sometimes a buddy's online status might prevent your IM from going through. A red hand means they are DND (Do Not Disturb) and the purple chat bubble means they are AFK (Away From Keyboard) and have their green 'goggles' on. Note: You can IM multiple buddies at the same time to create your own chat groups! Click People, IM, select On Line and add a checkmark next to the names you want to include in the conversation. For more options to better organize your buddy list, click People > Communicator > Organize. Doing this allows you to add sub-folders, remove people, or sort your friends' names alphabetically.
