There Fun Times

Getting Started: HoverBoats

Grab a group of friends for a pleasure cruise in one of the most enjoyable rides in There. Perfect for parties and tours, the HoverBoat is a five-person vehicle that lets you hang out while you're getting around!

The person in the driver's seat controls the movement and speed of the HoverBoat. The passengers can control their camera angles, giving them different views of the scenery and each other while riding through the air. Whether you fly by yourself or give your friends a ride, piloting a HoverBoat helps you gain points on the Boat Captain skill ladder. Hoverboats can be controlled easily with the arrow keys on your keyboard, although Action Mode is recommended to get the most out of your experience.

A variety of standard HoverBoats are available for purchase in Shop Central, and you can also find many fun and whimsical designs by our members in the There Auctions. If you are interested in learning more about HoverBoats and testing your skills at fun events, HoverBoat_Risers is the club for you!

Ahoy! It's the UniBoat!

Getting Started: Postcards and Screenshots

A picture is worth a thousand words, and sometimes you have a moment in There that you'd like to capture and share with friends. A handy feature that you should know about is the ability to send a postcard right from the 3D world! From your toolbar, click There > ThereCam > Create A Photo > Postcard. Not only will this take a snapshot, it will also give you the option to type in a friend's e-mail address and send them a picture of your favorite outfit or that new hoverboard trick you learned!

Sometimes you might just want to capture a moment for yourself. The best way to take a screenshot in There is to use the ThereCam. To access this, click There > ThereCam and select Take Photo Now. If you do not have a default folder for your screenshots, it will ask you to choose one. When you do this, your screenshots will go directly to this folder each time you take a picture.

A faster way to take a photo is by simply pressing CTRL>SHIFT>C.  Each time you do so, a new screenshot will appear in your default folder.  Not happy with the appearance or size of your screenshots? Click There > ThereCam > Photo Size and select a size that is right for you.

Like to take screenshots and document cool events?  Join the There Shutterbugs and earn 5000 TBux when we use your photos in any of our promotional materials!

Getting Started: How to Play Paintball

Playing paintball in There is lots of fun and easy to do. Paint guns have colored liquid in them and fire 100 yards. You can shoot targets, other avatars, or even join paintball matches for rating points!

Once you buy a paint gun from Shop Central, select My Things from the menu bar and then select Paint Gun > Aim. You will be asked to go into Action Mode, so click OK. The paint gun will appear in your hand. Simply left-click your mouse to shoot.  Reload your gun by holding the CTRL key and hovering over the gun's action tag.

Greeter_Becky takes aim!
Note: In order to shoot your gun, your forcefield must be turned off. (Activating and deactivating your forcefield can be done easily from your avatar's nametag.) Also, once you get the hang of playing paintball on the ground, try jumping onto a hoverboard and challenging a friend for some fast action!

If you would like to learn how to paintball or just improve your skills, check out the Paintball Isle zone on Fisher Island and join the Splatters_Paintball club.

Getting Started: Training Dogs

Dogs in There, like their real-world counterparts, are by nature friendly and playful. Dogs can be found at the Pet Store in Shop Central, along with several varieties of dog treats. Each type of treat will make your dog do something different, so have fun and experiment.
There are many commands that your dog will recognize. Try them with your dog or someone else's dog. To give a command, just type the word into a chat balloon and hit Enter. In most cases, this will result in your dog doing a cool trick! If your dog ignores you, don't get discouraged. Simply type its name or click Pet on its action tag to refocus attention and continue training. Here are some commands to try:

sit, bark, beg, sleep, come, down, heel, good, jump, stay, lie, nice, paw, play, run, shake

If you are interested in finding fun dog training events, check out the Salty Dogs zone on Fisher Island and join the DoggieMania club.

Getting Started: Hoverboard Tricks

There are three types of hoverboards in There: Cruiser, Radical and Freestyle. While the Cruiser is better suited for lapping and racing, and you can check out the Radical to gain extreme speeds, it's the Freestyle board that allows you to perform the best tricks.

Not only are hoverboard tricks really fun, they are also a great way to skill up and to look impressive if executed correctly.  While on a hoverboard, right-click your mouse to crouch down and jump up. While in the air, hold down any combination of the arrow keys to perform a trick. It's that simple! If you complete your tricks while in action mode, you can also move your mouse around to add extra flair to your trick.
If you'd like help with improving your skills or want to meet others who enjoy hoverboarding, check out our regular events at the Skatepark in CC Metro and consider joining the Beach Boarders Club.

Getting Started: Action Mode

Action Mode is very useful for driving vehicles in There. It allows you to take tighter turns and in some vehicles use turbo!  When Action Mode is enabled your cursor as well as the menu bars at the bottom of your screen will disappear.  This allows your mouse to control your movements.  You can toggle Action Mode on or off by selecting There > Customize > World > Default to Action Mode.  To bring back your cursor and menu bars when in Action Mode hold down the CTRL key.

Note: In order to shoot a paintball gun you will need to be in action mode.  When finished simply hold CTRL, use your cursor and put away the gun to return to standard mode.

You will still see your menu bar
when you are not in action mode.

Your cursor and menu bar
will disappear when you are in
action mode.

Getting Started: Using Your Forcefield

The Forcefield is an invisible, protective shield that surrounds your avatar and prevents objects such as vehicles and paintguns from knocking you down in There. To make sure you have this handy feature turned on, simply hover your mouse over your nametag and click Enable Forcefield!  You will know your forcefield has been turned on when there is a yellow border around your nametag.

A couple of things to note: You cannot fire a paintgun when your forcefield is turned on. Also, if you are summoned to a zone that requires your forcefield to be turned off, it will be turned off automatically. You will need to turn it back on again manually after you leave the zone.
